Each day starts at 8:00 a.m. with group discussion. We discuss what Combined Driving
is, rules, preparation for and expectations of competition, and correct harnessing. The
importance of dressage will be
discussed, including the role it plays in the other phases of CDE competition. Participants
will have an individual driving lesson while other participants observe, listen and discuss.
Additional discussion will cover driving a Cones Course. Participants will walk a Cones
Course with the clinician and then each participant will hitch and drive the Cones Course a
couple of times.
Another group discussion will cover Marathon. We will cover pacing, how to figure
times, responsibilities of driver
and navigator (miniatures have no navigator for singles, so the driver is own his/her own),
memorizing hazards, looking for options, etc. Participants will then walk a couple Marathon
Hazards with the clinician, discussing the options and deciding on their routes prior to
actually driving each of the Hazards a couple times. Depending on scheduling and number of
participants, we may set up a section of Marathon so that participants can drive striving
to match the desired timing.
Any final comments, questions, etc. will be dealt with prior to people heading for home
to practice before their first competition.
We will serve lunch as it fits the schedule each day. If you have a special dietary
request, please be sure to note it on your entry form. We need to have things on hand-we are
not in town with the convenience of a large grocery store near by.
