TREC to Escape Cabin Fever

Home Newsletter Contact Info Directions & More
This drive is intended as a fun off-season outing for you and your horse, a chance to refresh your partnership in games of skill. Besides that, it can be a more serious test of horse and driver skills in preparation for the competition season.
Come join us, the home of the first-ever
driven TREC in the U.S.

Safety Check ~ Each turnout will complete a safety check prior to starting on the courses. Plan for a cross-country drive. What would you take? Slow-moving vehicle sign? Raingear? Halter and lead? Cell phone? Tent? Wine and truffles? It's up to you. Plan for safety, welfare, and comfort (equine and human!). You'll lose points for unsafe conditions, and you could earn "extra credit" for that clever something extra. (There will be a "judge." Hint.. hint…) This section is judged the same for both Tenderfoot and Adventurer levels.

Cross Country Drive ~ Cross Country Drive and Control of Paces will take place over a prescribed course of 3 or 5 kilometers (your choice) of fields and ranch roads. You will be expected to follow the route and cover the distance at a predetermined speed, coming in as close to target time as possible. There will be sections for any pace, trot only, and walk only. You'll lose points for incorrect pace or for time over or under the optimum time allowed. This year, for an extra twist of fun.......no watches, compasses, GPSs, speedometers, or radioing to the mother ship. Paces will be different for Tenderfoots and Adventurers. Drivers may choose 3K or 5K course at their discretion.

Skills Course ~ will introduce elements you may find along any trail drive, with some added twists. We will not time this section. Abilities can vary greatly in this section. There will be something for everybody here. Can't do one of them? Just pass it by......a few points lost, but no eliminations. Things you might find could include hills, bridges, reinback, serpentines, circles, crossing fields, standing quietly, driving straight. There will be more challenging skills tested among the Adventurers, possibly including stopping part way up a steep hill, water crossings, and/or driving closed-patterns such as U or double U.

We'd love to have you join us to drive this TREC!
If, however, you prefer to watch this one rather than drive it -- you know, so you can learn the ropes -- we'd still love to have you!

We're looking for volunteers for to observe the skills courses, do timing, and be course marshals. So bring yourself, your spouse, a responsible kiddo, a friend or a neighbor. We'll provide on-the-job training. Volunteers will receive lunch, our undying gratitude, and the experience of becoming a TREC-ky -- priceless!
Please contact Maureen to volunteer. maureen@happs-inc.com
