Alex Fraser |
 |
Alex has been involved with horses since he was a young boy sneaking over to neighbor Frank McMaster's and coaxing horses to the corral fence and hopping on. Frank finally gave him a pony to keep him off of the horses he was training. Then Frank put Alex to work on a dude string. Alex then started training horses and teaching people to ride. |
Alex moved to Sandpoint, ID where he met Kayo who had no horse experience.........he took her for a ride......"the rest is history", as they got married in 1975. They started buying horses to train and sell, Alex went to horse-shoeing school, and they have gone on from there. |
The Frasers became involved in draft horses in 1976 and did custom logging, competed in the show ring, mowed and raked hay, and gave sleigh rides. Kayo started a draft horse resource directory called The Reach and published it from 1980 to 1990 before selling that business. Alex apprenticed and then judged Draft horse shows. He also worked for a local harness shop and learned to make and repair harness. Together, Alex and Kayo restored and built a hitch wagon. They created and operated a horse-drawn trolley ride business in Sandpoint,ID and ran it for eight years before selling and moving to Montana. There they started the Fraser School of Driving |
Fraser Driving School student, Paula Scott, talked Alex into driving and competing her four Fjords in Combined Driving Events. Their first event was in Utah and Alex completed it and returned home hooked on Combined Driving. Learning the rules was the next challenge. Along with that, Paula brought in top CDE drivers and clinicians so Alex could become proficient. For several years, Alex and Paula competed the only 4-up in the western part of the United States. The Fjords were retired in 2004 and Paula and Alex are now competing her Paint/Arab and Morgan ponies. Alex also finds time to compete his own horses, including his Wellington Coach Horses, "The Polar Boys". |
